LUXURY SAFARI LODGES

A serene safari retreat by with 10 safari lodges with cement floors, comfortable queen size bed or twin single beds spring mattresses, attached bathroom with warm water showers, amenities, a veranda with pool view. The level of luxury is further defined with a choice of Air Conditioned or Non
Air Conditioned safari lodges.

YALA NATIONAL PARK

Yala combines a strict nature reserve with a national park. Divided into 5 blocks, the park has a protected area of nearly 130,000 hectares of land consisting of light forests, scrubs, grasslands, tanks and lagoons. Two blocks are currently opened to the public. Yala is home to 44 varieties of mammal and 215 bird species. Among its more famous residents are the world’s biggest concentration of leopards, majestic elephants, sloth bears, sambars, jackals, spotted dear, peacocks, and crocodiles. The best time to visit Yala is between February and July when the water levels of the park are quite low, bringing animals into the open.

The gateway to Yala park is a 6km drive from Wild Panthera to the Palatupana entrance to the park. At Palatupana, the well-designed visitor center provides the information to the tourists and assign a tracker to all incoming vehicles. The park provides jeeps with soft–tops which gives the opportunity to view wild life. Dawn 6am and Dusk 3.30pm bring about the best timing for safari tours in the Yala National Park

BUNDALA NATIONAL PARK

Bundala National Park is a fantastic maze of waterways, lagoons and dunes that glitter like gold in the dying evening sun. This water wonderland provides a home to thousands of colourful birds ranging from diminutive little bee-eaters to memorably ugly open-billed storks. It shelters almost 200 species of birds within its 62-sq-km area, with many journeying from Siberia and the Rann of Kutch to winter here, arriving between August and April (December to March is the peak time). It’s also a winter home to the greater flamingo, being spotted regularly after a hiatus of a few years.

Bundala National Park is also nesting ground between October and January, four of Sri Lanka’s five species of marine turtles (olive ridley, green, leatherback and loggerhead) lay their eggs on the coast. Bundala is open year-round, allowing wildlife junkies to get a wet-season fix.

The entrance to Bundala Nationa Park is a 15min drive from Wild Panthera to the Palatupana entrance to the park. There’s a breezy visitors centre at the main gate which has views over the marshes; check out the skeleton of a fearsomely huge crocodile the well-designed visitor center provides the information to the tourists and assign a tracker to all incoming vehicles. Dawn 6am and dusk 3.30pm being about the best timing for safari tours.
