A serene safari retreat by the Walawe River, with 14 safari lodges with cement floors, comfortable king size bed or twin queen size spring mattresses, attached bathroom with hot water showers, veranda with a river or pool View.
The UWERP (Udawalawe Elephant Research Project) was conceived in 2005 by Dr. Shermin de Silva and conducted continuously since, following the lives of the Asian elephants found in Udawalawe National Park. Elephants are individually recognizable, and data accumulated close to 600 identified individuals, past and present. It is the only long-term research program of its kind anywhere in Asia. The aim of the project is to understand all aspects of wild elephant social behavior, communication, and demography.
